El Cruce de la Pampa

By Rafael Bruza

Directed by Julieta Kilgelmann

Performed by Laureano Heredia and Rene Villagra

El Cruce de la Pampa by Rafael Bruza is a seminal work of Argentine and Santafesinean theatre. It tells the unsettling story of two strangers who meet in the vast, desolate Pampas—an encounter charged with tension, mystery, and existential weight.

This new version offers a contemporary, physical, and poetic take on the original. Drawing from dramatic corporeal mime, it places the actor’s body at the center of the storytelling, in dialogue with an almost empty stage. Shadow theatre and immersive sound design transform the space into a visual and sensorial landscape where the Argentine plains become a silent, ever-present third character.

The staging reflects on solitude, fear of desire, and routine as a sterile refuge. It invites the audience into an inner journey—through everyday crossroads, uncertain choices, and the deep need to pause and inhabit the present. A minimalist aesthetic, layered with rich visual and sonic textures, brings this timeless metaphor to life.
